NextRequest is the portal the city uses for all FOIA and APRA requests. You can track the status of your request, receive documents electronically, and communicate with the records office through the platform.
For Allen County Sheriff records, use the separate portal at allencountyin.nextrequest.com. The city and county run separate systems even though they are related agencies.
The FWPD records page shown above walks through what types of reports are available, typical turnaround times, and what information you need to include in your request to avoid delays.
Indiana Courts MyCase
After an arrest in Fort Wayne, criminal charges are filed in Allen Superior Court or Allen Circuit Court. You can track any case at no cost through public.courts.in.gov/mycase.
Search by name, case number, or attorney. MyCase shows the full docket: charges, hearing dates, motions, and outcomes. New cases typically appear within one to two business days of the first court filing.
The system does not include sealed records or cases involving juveniles. Most adult criminal filings are open to the public from the date of first appearance forward.
What Arrest Records Show Under Indiana Law
Arrest records are public under IC 5-14-3-5. Law enforcement must make available the name of the person arrested, the offense charged, the date and location of arrest, and the arresting agency. This information cannot be withheld from the public.
What is not always available right away: mugshot photos, bond amounts, and exact booking times. Those details often appear on the jail roster within a few hours. If the information is not yet posted, check back later in the day.
An arrest does not mean the person was convicted. Charges may be dismissed or reduced. Keep that in mind when reviewing any record.
ISP Limited Criminal History
Indiana's statewide criminal history database is maintained by the Indiana State Police. You can search it for free at in.gov/ai/appfiles/isp-lch2. This is called the Limited Criminal History (LCH) search.
The LCH pulls from court-reported dispositions across all Indiana counties, including Allen. It is not real-time. There can be a delay of days or weeks between a court event and when it appears in the database. Use it for background checks on past cases, not to track recent arrests.
The ISP also offers enhanced background checks for employers and agencies that need certified results. Those cost more and require a formal application.
VINE Custody Alerts
VINE lets you sign up to be notified when someone leaves custody. It is free and available 24 hours a day. Register at vinelink.com or call 1-866-959-VINE. The service covers Allen County Jail and all Indiana IDOC facilities.
You pick the person you want to track, give your phone number or email, and VINE contacts you when their status changes. Alerts go out for releases, transfers, and escapes. It is most often used by victims and family members of crime victims, but anyone can register.
Accident Reports in Fort Wayne
Traffic crash reports for accidents in Fort Wayne are available through BuyCrash.com for $12. Reports are usually ready within a few business days of the crash. You will need the date, location, and at least one driver's name to locate the report.
Alternatively, submit a records request through the NextRequest portal and ask for the crash report by case number or date. This route is free but may take longer depending on the complexity of the request.
Public Records Under APRA
Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, found at IC 5-14-3-3, gives you the right to inspect and copy government records. That includes police reports, jail logs, and court documents. Agencies must respond within seven days of receiving your request.
If a request is denied, the agency must tell you the specific exemption they are relying on. Common exemptions include active investigations, confidential informant identities, and certain personnel records. You can appeal a denial to the Indiana Public Access Counselor for free.
Fort Wayne and Allen County both accept requests by email, mail, or through their respective NextRequest portals. In-person requests are also accepted but the preferred method is electronic.
IDOC Offender Search
People sentenced to Indiana state prison after an Allen County conviction can be found through the IDOC Offender Locator at offenderlocator.idoc.in.gov. Search by name or IDOC number to see current facility, projected release date, and conviction history.
