Scott County Sheriff's Office and Jail
The Scott County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail at 111 S 1st St, Scottsburg, IN 47170. The main phone line is 812-752-8400. The sheriff's office handles all bookings for arrests made in Scott County, whether by county deputies, Scottsburg city police, or state troopers operating locally. When someone is booked, staff record the person's name, date of birth, charges, arresting agency, and the date and time of the arrest.
Booking creates the official arrest record. Under IC 36-2-13-5, county sheriff's offices must maintain these records. Under IC 5-14-3-5, booking data is public. This means anyone can request or view the record. It does not mean the person has been found guilty. An arrest is not a conviction. Charges may be dropped or reduced at any point in the court process.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office website is at scottcounty.in.gov. You can find department contact information and local updates there. For live booking data, use the search tools described below.

Search Scott County Arrests Online
The statewide INjail portal at public.indianajail.gov is the most reliable free tool for Scott County recent arrests. This system is updated continuously from the jail management software. You can search by name and filter results to Scott County. Each result shows the person's full name, booking date, charges, and current custody status. The portal is free and requires no account.
Scott County is a smaller county, so the volume of daily bookings is lower than in metro areas. That said, the INjail system covers the jail 24 hours a day. If someone was booked overnight, you can find them in the system by morning. Searches work best with a full last name. Common names may return more than one result, so check the date of birth field to confirm identity.
You can also check the Scott County Circuit Court's online docket through the Indiana MyCase portal at public.courts.in.gov/mycase. After a booking, prosecutors typically file a charge within a few days. Once that happens, the case appears in MyCase with the defendant's name, case number, charges, and future hearing dates. This is separate from the jail roster but useful for tracking how a case moves through the courts.
MyCase Court Records for Scott County
Indiana's MyCase system covers Scott County Circuit Court and Scott County Superior Court. Both courts handle criminal cases that arise from arrests in the county. Felony cases go to Circuit Court. Misdemeanors and lower-level offenses may be heard in either court depending on assignment.
MyCase shows case filings, motions, hearing dates, judgments, and sentencing orders. You can search by name or case number. Records go back many years. If you want to see the court's history on a person, not just current custody status, MyCase is the right tool. The system is free and open to the public without login.
Court records and jail records work together but are not the same. The jail roster shows who is currently held. MyCase shows what the court did with the charges after the arrest. Someone may have been released on bond but still have an open court case that shows in MyCase.
What Arrest Records in Scott County Contain
Under IC 5-14-3-5, arrest records are public. Scott County arrest records typically include the person's full name, date of birth, home address at time of booking, charges filed, bond amount, arresting officer or agency, booking number, and the date and time of the arrest. Mugshot photos are part of the booking record and are also public in Indiana.
Arrest records do not include information that is sealed or confidential by law. Juvenile records are closed. Some mental health and medical data collected at booking is not public. But the core booking data - who was arrested, when, and for what - is available to anyone who asks or searches online.
These records exist from the moment of booking. They do not change if charges are dropped, unless the person later goes through the expungement process under IC 35-38-8. See the expungement section below for more on that process.
Indiana State Police Limited Criminal History
The Indiana State Police runs a Limited Criminal History (LCH) search at in.gov/ai/appfiles/isp-lch2. This tool pulls from a statewide database of criminal history records, including Scott County arrests that resulted in charges. The search costs $16.32 per name. It shows convictions, pending charges, and case dispositions.
The ISP LCH is not the same as the jail roster. The jail roster shows who is currently in custody. The LCH shows a person's full criminal history going back years. It is useful for background checks, legal research, or verifying someone's record. The search is online and returns results quickly. You pay by credit or debit card. Results are not mailed - you view them on the screen and can print them.
The ISP LCH is one of the most complete statewide records tools available to the public in Indiana.

VINE is free to use. You don't have to be the crime victim to register. Family members, attorneys, and others can sign up. The system works around the clock. You can also use the VINE website to check current custody status without registering for alerts - just enter the person's name and select Scott County.
Public Records Requests Under Indiana's APRA
Indiana's Access to Public Records Act (APRA), codified at IC 5-14-3-3, gives everyone the right to inspect or copy public records. Arrest records, booking logs, and jail rosters are public records. You can request them from the Scott County Sheriff's Office.
To make a request, contact the sheriff's office at 812-752-8400 or visit in person at 111 S 1st St, Scottsburg. Identify the record you want - for example, a specific booking report, an incident report, or a range of arrest records by date. The office must respond within seven days. If they deny the request, they must give a written reason. Most arrest records are released without issue. Fees may apply for copying. The law does not set a per-page cap for sheriff's offices, but charges must be reasonable.
Expungement of Scott County Arrest Records
Indiana's expungement law, IC 35-38-8, lets people petition to seal or restrict access to certain arrest and conviction records. If an arrest did not lead to a conviction, you may be able to get the record expunged relatively quickly - sometimes within one year of the arrest date. For convictions, waiting periods depend on the offense level.
Expungement in Scott County is handled through the Scott County Circuit Court or Superior Court, depending on where the case was filed. You file a petition with the court, and the judge decides whether to grant it. Once expunged, the record is restricted from most public searches, including the INjail portal and MyCase. Law enforcement still has access under certain conditions.
The Indiana Legal Services organization offers free help to low-income residents seeking expungement. You can reach them online at indianalegalservices.org. The process involves paperwork and a court appearance. An attorney can help, though it is possible to file on your own using the Indiana Supreme Court's self-help forms.
