Marion County Inmate Lookup - Two Search Systems
Marion County operates two public inmate search systems. The first is the Marion County Sheriff's inmate lookup at inmateinfo.indy.gov/IML. This system lets you search in two ways. Option one is a name search: enter first name, last name, and optionally date of birth. Option two is an ID search: choose the identifier type (booking number, permanent number, State ID, County ID, FBI Number, or ICE Number) and enter the value. Both options have an "include released inmates" checkbox so you can find people who were recently released in addition to those currently in custody.
Search results display the inmate's booking photo, full name, booking number, permanent number, date of birth, race and sex, booking date and time, current custody status, housing location within the facility, all charges with descriptions, bond amounts for each charge, and the next scheduled court date. This is a comprehensive record that covers most of what you need to know about a current or recent Marion County booking.
The second system is at jail.marionso.com, run by the Marion County Sheriff's Office directly. Search by first name, last name, and optionally check a box to include archive records for historical inmates. This system shows both current inmates and people who have been released, with booking photos, charge information, and bond status. The two systems pull from different data sources and it can be worth checking both if you are having trouble finding someone in one of them.
The screenshot below shows the primary Marion County inmate lookup portal at inmateinfo.indy.gov, which covers the Adult Detention Center and recent Marion County bookings with detailed record information.
The Adult Detention Center is at 40 S. Alabama Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204. The Marion County Sheriff's Office main location is 695 Justice Way, Indianapolis, IN 46203. Phone: 317-327-1700. Fax: 317-327-1315. Email: Contact.MCSO@indy.gov. Office hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. The Marion County Jail uses GettingOut for inmate phone calls and messaging; set up accounts at gettingout.com.
Under IC 5-14-3-5, Marion County must publicly disclose the arrested person's name, age, and address, the charges, the arrest date and time, the arrest location, the arresting officer's name, and the responsible agency. The county's two inmate portals satisfy this requirement. IC 36-2-13-5 additionally requires the sheriff to take fingerprints, photographs, and identifying data from every person taken into custody, which is why detailed physical descriptions and booking photos appear in the system.
Note: Both inmate search portals are free to use and do not require account creation or login. If a person was recently released, try enabling the "include released" or archive option to find their record.IMPD Incident Reports and Accident Reports
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) maintains its own public records systems for incident reports and accident reports. These are separate from the inmate search and cover the documentary record of police contacts and investigations.
For accident reports, IMPD uses the BuyCrash system. Reports can be obtained at indy.gov/activity/request-an-accident-report through BuyCrash for $12 per report. You can also get accident reports in person at the City-County Building, 50 N. Alabama St., Room E100, Indianapolis, IN 46204. The IMPD Records unit can be reached at 317-327-3155. In-person hours are 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.

For incident reports, the process is slightly different. IMPD charges $5 per incident report. Requests can be made in person at Room E100 of the City-County Building, 50 N. Alabama St., E100, Indianapolis, IN 46204. You can also mail a request with a self-addressed stamped envelope to the same address. Include the date and time of the incident, the location, a brief description, any names involved, and a case number if you have it.

IMPD non-emergency: 317-327-3811. IMPD Records unit: 317-327-3155. These numbers handle inquiries about specific incidents and records rather than 911 emergencies.
Note: Incident reports and accident reports are two different document types in the IMPD system. Order the correct type based on what you need. Crash reports use BuyCrash; all other police incident reports use the separate request process.Marion County Court Records
